Grand Illusions Magic Shop in Sacramento, California, holds a special place in the hearts of many, including myself. The shop, owned by Steve Johnson, has long been a haven for magic enthusiasts, providing a wide range of magic tricks, props, and supplies. The welcoming atmosphere and Steve's dedication to the magic community have made it a beloved local landmark.

Steve and Grand Illusions have meant so much to me from childhood through adulthood. As a kid, I would spend countless hours in the shop, mesmerized by the magic shows and learning new tricks from Steve himself. His passion and patience helped foster my love for magic, turning it into a lifelong hobby. The shop wasn't just a store; it was a place where dreams and illusions came to life, providing an escape from the ordinary.

I fondly remember being part of a special release party October of 2007 during the official release of Wayne Houchin's "Distortion" at Grand Illusions. It was an unforgettable event where I got to interact with some of the best magicians and enthusiasts in the community. The events hosted by Grand Illusions, such as this one, were always filled with excitement and camaraderie, leaving lasting impressions on everyone who attended.
Now today, more than 16 years since that memorable day, my 12-year-old son expressed his longing to visit Grand Illusions and experience the magic firsthand, which was exciting! But of course reality set in and I remembered about Sacramento’s great loss. The shop was a magical escape for me, and I wish he could have the same opportunity to step into that world of wonder. Steve and Grand Illusions have created memories that I will cherish forever, and their absence leaves a significant void in our community.

Thank you, Steve, for all the magic and joy you've brought into our lives. Your shop was more than a business; it was a sanctuary of dreams and imagination. You and Grand Illusions will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Stopped by Grand Illusion today only to discover it has closed. Been a customer here since my now 22 year old daughter was a toddler. Steve always amazed the kids with magic and with joy in his heart suffered my attempts at magic. My three children all love magic largely due to Steve. We spent countless hours with the goodies from Grand Illusion. It's sad to see Sacramento lose one of its best family run businesses. I hope all the best for Steve and his family. Thank you for years of meaningful family time and fun.

I grew up going to this shop and have a lot of great memories here. I since moved out of state and haven't been back for over 5 years. Today, I was back in town visiting friends in the area and knew that I also had to visit the magic shop! It was extra special because it was the first time my sons (7 and 9) got to visit. I loved watching the wonderment and excitement in their eyes looking through the cases and cases of tricks, and watching the master Steve himself perform the illusions. Steve helped us pick up some kid friendly tricks and we had a blast showing them to friends and family this evening; we even stumped grandpa! Quality illusions and great prices for a specialty shop. Can't wait to visit next time I am back in California.

I went here looking for some illusions for my son who has expressed an interest in magic. Steve is a very friendly and knowledgeable man. He took time to show several options and explain them. He offers classes that are very reasonably priced. This is a cool little independent shop.

This is a fantastic magic and costume shop. Truly a classic Sacramento spot. Family business that's been in this location for many years. I have several friends that rode their bikes to the shop when they were kids, and I love taking my boys here now-a-days as well. You're guaranteed to learn something while you are here, but make sure to buy something. I have found the more you buy, the more you will learn. It's a magic shop, not a magic show, so let's make sure this family business stays in business for years to come. There's really not many places like it.

First visit here the other day. Small but absolutely lovely. The owner and his wife are very kind and helpful. And there was selection everywhere. Fair priced, but a bit easy to miss on the street. Kinda tucked away in a corner but other than that Grand Illusions will be getting my business later on down the line.

This is the best magic shop i have ever visited!! Mr.Steve and Mrs.Leora are such nice people. Mr.Steve was telling jokes and teaching tricks. The prices are amazing and the atmosphere is wonderful. Will definitely be coming back many many more times!!
